A UK hospital wanted to reduce the energy wasted through the ventilation exhausted air. The hospital's HVAC system was renewed with an advanced building control system with heat recovery function. 62 ABB Variable Speed Drives were installed by Quantum Controls Ltd (2.2 - 37Kw).
Project delivered significant specific energy cost reduction due to the heat energy consumption reducing dramatically.
- Energy Saving: 18,440 kWh/year
- CO2 Reduction: 9.2 tonnes/year
Quantum Controls Provide Energy Savings at Swimming Pool Leisure Centres for Derby City Council
Quantum Controls Ltd have recently supplied ABB , ACH variable speed drives on leisure centre swimming pools to give substantial KWH savings for the running costs and reduce the Carbon Footprint for Derby City local government council with funding provided through the Salix Scheme.
The pools were originally running on fixed speed motor pumps 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with substantial energy costs. Quantum were asked to look at energy saving and show how much KWH and CO2 could be saved.
An energy logger was placed on the existing fixed speed system and the KWH consumption was recorded over a 7 day period. A temporary ABB variable speed drive was then fitted to one of the pumps and the energy consumption logged again for a 1 week period.
Quantum used their none intrusive strap on flow meter to record flow rates and pool water turn round time at both fixed and variable speed control to make sure that the pool water quality and turn round time were not affected to any detrimental; level.
The results shown from the trial proved that during day time running the pump energy consumption fell to below 30% of the fixed speed and over 50% during the pool closed hours when the pump speed could be reduced even further.
Birmingham Children's Hospital
Birmingham Children's hospital have won the energy award for 'best energy saving installation' for the 2nd quarter in Quantum Control's C02 reducing project.
We supplied 55 ABB HVAC Variable Speed Drives, 11 ABB IE2 motors, full installation and commissioning of all systems. The project had delivered £55k per annum energy saving for the Hospital.
This award looks at new installation and refurbishment projects utilizing energy efficient motors and variable speed drives carried out by Quantum Controls Ltd. It recognizes entries from all industries and organizations that have installed new drives and motors thus achieving an ongoing reduction in their energy / CO2 usage.
Quantum will recognize innovative techniques used to ensure a refurbishment project is carried out in the most energy efficient way, providing significant savings compared to previous energy usage.
Each quarterly winner receives a day's free training at ABB's Head Office Daresbury for up to 5 people covering any topic on Variable Speed Drives or Motors, including programming training if required. All accommodation costs are included in the prize.
The four winners of the quarterly awards will then be entered for the overall annual winner at the end of 2011 and the winner will win a trip to the Largest Variable Speed Drives and Motor factory in the world at Helsinki, Finland.
All flights and hotels are included. Full itinerary covering all aspects of ABB drives and motors product range will be covered over the two days along with full factory tour including introduction to the world's largest R&D centre for Drives and Motors.
We will be awarding the 3rd quarter award in next few weeks so keep posted to find out who the winner is.
