Helping Create Engineers for the Future

As part of National Apprenticeship Week we’re interviewing some of the many apprentices here at Quantum.  Today we talk to Robbie, our Apprentice Engineer about his experiences at Quantum.

Robbie started his apprenticeship with Quantum Controls in September 2022, so is one of our more recent apprentices.  After completing his A Levels Robbie came to the decision that he wanted to become an Electrical Engineer and applied for a role with Quantum; ‘Quantum were able to provide me with the best opportunity to start my career in electrical engineering, as well as teaching me valuable knowledge throughout.  I wanted the opportunity to learn and gain experience of the working environment and of industry which I get while at Quantum.’

Robbie explained that he’s learned a lot during the last five months ‘I’ve learned so many new skills, such as being able to repair various drives and modules, and improved my organisational skills, this helps when I have multiple tasks at the same time.’  Robbie told us that being an apprentice also brings its challenges ‘Being an apprentice definitely challenges me,  on one occasion we were creating quick connects for a panel and the holes drilled didn’t line up correctly, we had to come up with different solutions in order to make the gland plate line up to the correct standards.  This was a difficult situation that we had to overcome as a team’.

In the future, Robbie is aiming to complete his apprenticeship and then progress as an Electrical Engineer, ‘I’d really like to progress into a senior engineer and management roles, I really enjoy the variation of work being an engineer gives me so I really want to stay on this career path.’
