Onshore Power Supply
Quantum Controls is a leading provider of shore to ship power systems, helping ports and vessels reduce emissions, cut fuel costs, and comply with global environmental regulations.
Also known as Onshore Power Supply (OPS) or Shoreside Electricity (SSE), our solutions deliver reliable, efficient electrical power from the shore to docked ships, enabling vessels to shut down their diesel engines while berthed.
Onshore Power, also referred to as Cold Ironing, Alternative Maritime Power (AMP), or High-Voltage Shore Connection, is the process of supplying shore-generated electricity to a ship at berth. This technology allows ships to plug into the local electrical grid, reducing emissions and noise pollution by eliminating the need to run onboard auxiliary engines.
Cleaner port operations
Ports and shipping companies worldwide are rapidly adopting shore power systems to support environmental targets and regulatory compliance, including IMO and EU mandates. Benefits include:
Significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and air pollutants.
Lower fuel consumption and operational costs.
Improved air quality and noise reduction in port areas.
Compliance with cold ironing regulations and standards such as IEC/IEEE 80005.
At Quantum Controls, we design and deliver fully integrated shore power systems, including:
Whether you’re equipping a busy container terminal or a cruise berth, our team provides tailored shore to ship solutions that meet international standards and support long-term sustainability.
From feasibility to implementation
From feasibility studies to full implementation, Quantum Controls supports every stage of your shore power project. Our expertise in Shoreside Electricity (SSE) and marine-grade power systems ensures you receive a robust, future-ready solution.
Quantum Controls is actively supporting UK and European ports in meeting their environmental and operational goals by delivering turnkey Shore to Ship power solutions.
From temporary power hire to fully integrated Onshore Power Supply (OPS) systems, we help ports and shipping operators reduce emissions, comply with FuelEU Maritime, AFIR, and IEC/IEEE 80005 standards, and transition to a cleaner, more efficient future.

We received a request from a European company specialising in Superyacht Refits. They had a 140 metre Superyacht, worth $300 million, coming into dock to undertake important required works and needed to convert shore supply to be able to carry out the project.
They needed to convert shore supply at 400V, 50Hz to 440V, 60Hz with a total demand of 1,200 Amps continuous during full load periods.
Furthermore, this had to be built, tested, and shipped to site in France within a four-week lead time to accommodate the vessel coming into dry dock for its required works.

Smaller flexible payments are easier to control and less of a strain on your finances. Because they are broken down over a longer period, it gives you the chance to pay back as you earn.
Renting is tax deductible. VAT is charged on the smaller payments and not the large fee at the start of your payment, giving you more chance to earn before you pay.
Our Mains Power Converter System options give you the freedom to know the service and maintenance upkeep of the equipment is our responsibility and at our cost.
Temporary power requirements can be met without the need to purchase. Hire the right kit at the right cost for the period of time required.
